A letter from the Owner.....

“My mother bought this land back in 1962 and walked the shore for years with her German Shepherds and Irish Wolfhounds. Every morning during the warm months, she took a dip in the lake and the dogs joined her! She raised Arabian horses on her land nearby and rode through the woods regularly and down to the beach. After her death, we children divided up the land but made sure that the lots were all a good size, so it would be impossible to see or hear any close neighbors.

“This particular lot is 6.39 acres of build-able land, with 267 shore feet, with a very dramatic rock shoreline that never gets old or boring. Yet it is easy to get into the water for a swim or walk down the shore to the sand beach. It would be a snap to build a short road from the fire lane going through the woods and clearing an area on the flat land on which to build. Walk the land where Native American tribes like the Potawatomi used to hunt and fish. Explore woods filled with virgin trees and protected flowers such as trillium. And be lulled to sleep at night listening to the waves of Lake Michigan lapping against the shore.

“I remember a magical feeling of this land from my childhood, having cookouts on the beach, watching shooting stars and Northern Lights in August and biking nearby roads to see the fall colors in Autumn. I’ve met many families and retired people who have discovered the joys of Door County living, whether for a year-round second home or a cottage for the seasonal months of May to November. I rented in Door County for a while to see whether I wanted to retire there and heard people in the locker room of the YMCA talk of going to their homes in LaJolla or Palm Beach when the weather got cold. There is an exciting music and arts community during the warmer months and it’s worth a visit simply for the fall foliage. And an ice cream cone at Wilson’s in Ephraim!

My land abuts a large tract owned by the Door County Land Trust, an organization devoted to protecting and keeping land in its natural state. So there would be even more privacy for the new owner of my property. Fishing at Heins Creek is within walking distance and there are regular summer and festival events in both Baileys Harbor and Jacksonport.

The property just to the south of this lot was sold recently, only a few improvements were made and it is back on the market for a considerable sum. So there is great potential for my land as well.”
